YMCA Summer Work Student Exchange
The YMCA is now accepting applications from 16 and 17 year olds to participate in the Summer Work Student Exchange, a national youth exchange program for eligible teens who wish to strengthen their second official language skills and gain valuable work experience while on exchange to another province.
For six weeks in the summer, participants are ‘twinned’ with youth in another province where the second language (either French or English) predominates, and are hosted in each other’s homes. During these six weeks, youth are given a full time paid work placement in the not-for-profit sector and participate in activities and events that give them the opportunity to be engaged and contribute to their new surroundings.
Eligible teens can apply for a 2012 exchange opportunity by contacting Erica at 612-2110 or by visiting www.summer-work.com. Available spots for 2012 are filling quickly. Applications are due by May 18, 2011.
A guide for bilingual youth
French-Second-Language Education has been instrumental in the lives of many youth in Canada from a very young age. Many students who have learned the language throughout their school years often wonder how they can continue their learning and apply it to the working world. A list of opportunties is available! If you would like a copy, please send an email to cpfsask@sasktel.net. Thanks to the national office of CPF for the working document.
